Sam Koenig

Sam Koenig is set to begin his first season as the assistant men's and women’s soccer coach at Loras College along with the duties as head men's reserves soccer coach of the Duhawks.

Koenig was a four-year member of the Loras varsity team from 2012-2015. During that time, he helped lead the Duhawks to four Iowa Conference Regular Season Championships, three Iowa Conference Tournament Championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a sweet sixteen appearance in 2014 and three final four appearances in 2012, 2013, and 2015. This also included the Duhawks first ever appearance in the National Championship. Koenig was a two-year captain including during Loras' first appearance in the NCAA National Championship in 2015.

As a player, Koenig’s honors include being named to the NSCAA Scholar All-American Team, a two-time CoSIDA Scholar All-American, NSCAA All-Region First Team, two-time NSCAA Scholar All-Region, two-time CoSIDA Scholar All-Region Team, All-Conference First Team IIAC, All-Conference Second Team IIAC and three-time Academic All-Conference selection.

Koenig’s coaching career began during his time on the Duhawks' roster with the boy's high school team at Wahlert Catholic. Starting as an assistant coach his freshmen year in 2012, he took over as head coach in 2013. He led Wahlert Catholic boy's team to a third place finish in class 2A during the 2016 season. As a former player of Wahlert Catholic, Koenig’s Honors included a IHSSSA State Championship in 2012, state runner-up 2009 and 2010, state third place 2011, NSCAA Academic All-American, four-time All-State First Team, four-time All-Conference MVC, Academic All-Conference selection, four-time All-Tournament Team, All-Tournament Team Captain and two-year captain.

Outside of his coaching responsibilities at Loras, Koenig is a board member for Key City Soccer.

A native of Dubuque, Koenig earned his bachelor's degree from Loras in 2015 in accounting.
