Cam Long enters his third season as head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams ahead of the 2025-26 season after taking over both programs during the 2023-24 season.
A Dubuque native, Long comes to Loras with extensive coaching experience in the Midwest, most recently as the head coach for both men's and women's tennis at Concordia University, Nebraska, an NAIA institution.
Long has tallied 40 dual match victories across both the men’s and women’s teams during his first two seasons at Loras, and coached 10 total All-Conference players. Both the men’s and women’s programs have earned honors as an ITA All-Academic team in each season.
In two years leading both Concordia programs, Long coached seven Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) all-conference players and 13 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic players. In the 2022-23 season, Long's women's team captured a GPAC individual title in doubles, and had a player break the school record for individual doubles wins in a season. That team boasted the No. 4-ranked women's singles player and No. 10-ranked women's doubles team in the ITA Central West Region.
Prior to his time in Seward, Neb., Long spent one spring season as a men's and women's assistant coach at Centre College in Danville, Ky., where he helped coach eight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) All-Conference players. In that spring 2021 season, the men's team qualified for its first ever SAA Championship appearance while the women's team made its third such appearance. The Colonel women were ranked as high as No. 36 in the ITA national rankings that year, which marked the program's first-ever national ranking, while the men got as high as No. 13 in their regional rankings, which was their highest ever.
Long's background also includes time as a teaching assistant while he was a graduate student at the University of Iowa, where he earned a Master of Arts in Sport and Recreation Management. His experience in sports branches into other event management and athletic communication roles, including stints as a Sports Information Intern at Clarke University, a Gameday Stringer for the Clinton Lumberkings, and as a tennis instructor for the City of Dubuque and Luther College, his alma mater.
Long was a four-year letter winner for the Luther men's tennis team from 2015-19 and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during his time with the Norse. He is a graduate of Wahlert Catholic High School.
