Bluejays' Bench Too Hot for Duhawks to Handle

ELMHURST, Illinois (Duhawks.com) – Despite senior Aaron Schueller's 19 points on Wednesday night, Loras couldn't keep the hot-shooting Elmhurst Bluejays in check, as they fell 90-71. While Loras' starters held the upper hand on the scoresheet, it was the bench of the Bluejays who proved to be the difference, finishing with 37 points.

Elmhurst (6-0) opened with a 16-5 run through the first five minutes of play, forcing three turnovers and five missed field goals from the Duhawks. In front of many of their friends and family, Loras failed to get into any rhythm in the first half. By the end of the opening 20 minutes, the Bluejays held a commanding 47-27 lead.

The first half ended on a 14-1 run for Elmhurst, capping a 17-of-31 performance from the floor. The Bluejays shot 50 percent from distance in the first half with Kyle Wuest leading the way with two 3-pointers.

Elmhurst attempted to pull away in the second half as they got out to a 29-point lead with 10:03 to go, but that quickly dissipated after a 15-0 run by Loras. The rally was muffled by the return of the Elmhurst offense who pushed their lead back to 19 over the course of the final five minutes of play.

The Duhawks (3-3) struggled from the floor, shooting 23-of-59. This, when coupled with the rebounding margin (39-32) and turnover margin (9-12), gave Elmhurst all the advantage they needed to keep their winning streak intact.

Kyle Wuest led all on the floor with 20 points and added 12 points for the double-double. Each team had three players finish in double figures on offense.

Game Changer
The Elmhurst Blue Jays took the lead early and did not allow the Duhawks to take a lead or even tie the game after they scored the first 7 points of the game.

Key Stat
Led by Nathan Rodgers and Jalen Loving, the Blue Jay bench outscored the Duhawks bench by a score of 37-12.
