DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Looking to make history on Wednesday, the Loras Women's Tennis team suffered their first setback in conference play, falling to Wartburg College 6-3.
After defeating the University of Dubuque just hours prior, the Knights came across Loras Boulevard to play their second dual of the day. The Knights started the match off strong with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. A brand new combination at No. 2 doubles, consisting of freshmen
Kylie DeWees and
Sam Pietruszynski proved to be a winning combination, as they defeated Katherine Ross and Marissa Buresh 8-5.
Senior
Elizabeth Dickhut improved to 4-2 on the year at No. 1 singles, defeating Ross in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. The Knights rebounded quickly, taking wins at No. 2 through No. 5 singles, clinching the win for Wartburg.
Sophomore
Kelsey Woodward ended the night for Loras on a good note, winning at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 7-5. The win for Woodward moves her season mark to 2-4.
The Duhawks will look to rebound quickly as they travel to Storm Lake, Iowa on Saturday for a pair of matches. First, Loras will see Buena Vista and hope to add another win to their Iowa Conference total. Their second match of the day will be against University of Northwestern.
