CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Coming off their first appearance at the ITA Regionals, the Loras Women's Tennis team resumed their Iowa Conference schedule on Thursday night at Coe College. The Kohawks, who entered the dual on a 29-match winning streak in conference play, kept the train rolling, sweeping Loras 9-0. Freshman
Ayla Graziano was the lone Duhawk to record multiple set victories at No. 6 singles, falling 6-2, 6-2.
For the second contest in a row, the Duhawks were without their senior leader and No. 1 singles performer,
Jessica Dickhut. As a result, her younger sister,
Jessica Dickhut, was moved into the top spot. She was no match for Haley Resnick, who quickly went 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 2 singles, freshman
Kylie DeWees couldn't gain any traction, falling 6-0, 6-0. Senior
Caroline Rainey fought tooth and nail, but came up short, 6-0, 6-1. It wouldn't be until No. 6 singles that Loras cracked the Coe lineup.
Graziano gave Loras their best chance of the night, but in the end still fell 6-2 in straight sets.
Next up for the Duhawks is a non-conference doubleheader in Davenport this Saturday. Loras will face St. Ambrose at 9 a.m. before challenging Knox at 12 p.m.
