Box Score 2 TUSCON, Ariz. (Duhawks.com) - Defensive woes plagued the Loras College Softball team on day three of their Arizona trip. Despite leading in both contests, the Duhawks fell to Edgewood (16-5) and Alfred (6-4).
Freshman Regan Wolverton capped a first inning with a RBI-single, driving in sophomore Dani Stromert. The clutch piece of hitting lifted the Duhawks (4-6, 0-0) to a 1-0 lead through one inning of play.
The Eagles (3-5, 0-0) responded with six runs in the second, to take a commanding 6-1 lead into the third.Â
Despite adding four runs over the course of the game, the Duhawks offense could not keep pace with the Eagles, falling 16-5.
Alfred opened the scoring in game two, tacking on a run in the opening frame. The Saxons held a 1-0 lead for the next few innings as the Duhawks struggled to drive in one another.
Loras' scoring drought came to an abrupt halt in the fourth when senior Katie Serpico blasted a pitch over the left field fence for her first grand slam off the season. Serpico's dinger, gave the Duhawks a 4-1 edge.Â
Chipping away at the Duhawks lead, the Saxons pushed across four runs in the next four innings to take a 5-4 lead into the seventh.
After the Saxons added an insurance run, Loras had trailed by two heading into their last at bats. Unable to get anything going offensively, the Duhawks never regained the lead, falling 6-4.

In game one, a six-spot put up by the Eagles in the second inning turned the tide in their favor for the rest of the game … Against Alfred, a costly error allowed the Saxons to take a 5-4 lead in sixth before adding an insurance run in the seventhÂ
