DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras College Women's Lacrosse team is set to spend spring break traveling to Indiana and Ohio with games against Saint Mary's, Wilmington, and Hanover. Playing three games in four days, caps a busy 13-day stretch for the Duhawks in which they will have played eight games. The Duhawks open play on Monday with a tilt against the Belles of Saint Mary's.
DUHAWKS OUTLAST CORNELL, NOTCH FIRST MWLC WIN ...
Loras earned their first Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference win of the season on Saturday, in a win over Cornell. Fueled by junior Kaitlyn Kutsch, the Duhawks used an early lead to take control from the start. As the Rams battled back, Loras' defense stood tall. Freshmen Sammi Wichgers and Nia Stompanato came up with clutch plays defensively, while freshman goalkeeper made big saves down the stretch and Kutsch distanced the Duhawks offensively on their way to a 10-6 win.
NATIONALLY RANKED DUHAWKS, DISRUPT OPPONENTS ...
Entering week four with 100 caused turnovers through seven games played, the Duhawks ranked sixth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (14.29). Led by the aggressive play of sophomore Hannah Nelson (17 caused turnovers), senior Gina Dacy, sophomore Hailey Frederick, and freshman Sammi Wichgers add 11 each.
KUTSCH LIGHTS UP RAMS DEFENSE ...
Junior Kaitlyn Kutsch lit up the Rams defense on Saturday, scoring a season-best eight goals on the way to the Duhawks 10-6 win. Falling one-goal shy of a career-best on the day, Kutsch capitalized on 4-of-5 free position opportunities.
WEEK THREE BRINGS OUT BEST OF NELSON ...
Sophomore Hannah Nelson caught fire in week three, tallying five goals while playing the whole field for the Duhawks. Nelson tallied eight caused turnovers and seven draw controls while anchoring Loras' transition game.
HOT START FADES AS LORAS FALLS IN DOUBLE OVERTIME ...
Sophomore Hannah Nelson scored less than two minutes in on a slick feed by junior Kaitlyn Kutsch, breaking open the scoring in the Duhawks bout with the Knights of Wartburg on Sunday. Senior Gina Dacy doubled the lead 20 seconds later before Nelson netted her second of the day. Wartburg charged back, scoring five straight before the two teams were level at eight through regulation. In the first overtime, each team scored once to force sudden death. Midway through the sudden death period, the Knights broke through Loras' defense and burried the game winner.
