DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) – The Loras College women's tennis team opened up their spring season against Monmouth College on Sunday. Three doubles wins by Loras set the tone and paved the way for a 9-0 sweep.

Senior Elizabeth Dickhut and sophomore Jessica Dickhut, who earned All-Conference honors in the fall, won their No. 1 doubles, 8-4. The pair never trailed in this match and won the first five games before falling in the sixth and seventh game. The sisterly duo bounced back to win the next three of five games to take the win.

The same theme of never trailing continued for the Duhawks at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen Sam Pietruszynski and Kylie DeWees cruised to an 8-2 win, stealing the momentum from the very start and never looking back.

At No. 3 doubles, it was senior Caroline Rainey and sophomore Maggie Clements who completed the doubles' sweep, winning 8-4. Rainey and Clements took the first game but dropped the next two before returning to form and winning seven of the remaining nine games.

The same dominance continued for the Duhawks in the singles portion of the dual.

Elizabeth Dickhut, Jessica Dickhut, Dewees, Rainey and Pietruzynski all won their singles matches in straight sets. In every match except one, the Duhawks never trailed.

Pietruszynski fell behind 3-2 at No. 5 singles, but quickly righted the ship on her way to a 6-3, 6-2 win.

The Duhawks are back in action next Sunday at home against Augustana College. The dual is set to start at 9 a.m.
