DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras College Women's Lacrosse team closes out the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference portion of their schedule with weekend bouts against Aurora and Benedictine. McGEE TURNS IN IMPRESSIVE WEEK DESPITE RECORD
Stepping into the starter's role as a freshman can be difficult, there's no question. Opening your career as the starting goalkeeper, can be even more difficult. Over the course of the season, the growth of freshman goalkeeper Ashley McGee has been apparent. Owning a 4-9 record, earning the start in every game, McGee's progress was displayed in week five. Perhaps one of the best weeks McGee has turned in, the Nazareth alumnus stood tall despite being under constant fire power. Totaling 30 saves on the week, McGee held a .441 save percentage in Loras' contests against Dubuque, Aurora, and Ilinois Tech.
SECOND HALF COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN THE WINDY CITY
Loras looked as though they were going to overcome a sluggish start against Illinois Tech, fighting back within one late in the second half. Firing off a season-high 28 shots, Illinois Tech's goalkeeper bent but never broke, as Loras fell 9-8.
DUHAWKS SLIGHTED BY SPARTANS
The Duhawks opened the game with a 2-0 lead at Oyen Field before fading as the Spartans rattled off 15 unanswered goals. Loras made a late run, but could not overcome the deficit, falling 16-6. With the loss, Loras fell to 2-2 in the history of the crosstown rivalry.
SEASON WINDING DOWN
With three games left on the schedule, the 2015 season is coming to a close for the Duhawks. Loras' 9-8 loss to Illinois Tech officially eliminated them from postseason play, meaning their season will wrap up in Kansas City, Missouri on April 25 with a bout against Rockhurst.
LORAS HOSTING PARENT'S DAY ON SATURDAY
Loras will host Parents Day on Saturday when the Duhawks face Aurora. Recognizing the parents and families of the Duhawks Lacrosse players, is the program's way of thanking them for their dedication and support of Loras College Women's Lacrosse. Whether it's traveling from afar or hosting the team for dinner, the Duhawks appreciate the support.
DACY, SLANKER TO GET RECOGNIZED SUNDAY
Seniors Gina Dacy and Eliza Slanker will take the field in the Rock Bowl for the last time in their Duhawk careers. Dacy, known for her speed, has been a mainstay in the Duhawks midfield over the past three seasons. Tallying 10 goals and three assists, the Rochester, Minnesota product has been effective on both ends of the field. Appearing in 46 games, Dacy has totalled 63 ground balls, 58 draw controls, and 35 cuased turnovers. On the flip side, Slanker has spent the last two seasons holding down the Duhawks' backline of defense. "Stone Wall Slanker" as her teammates like to call her, has blossomed into a stout defender for the Duhawks in her final season. Marking career highs in every statistical catergory, Slanker brings an intensity and aggressiveness to the Duhawk defense.
