WAVERLY, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Senior
Zach Minch recorded his fifth consecutive game this season with at least 100 yards, while adding a pair of touchdowns on Saturday in Loras' 38-30 loss to Wartburg. On defense, senior
Damon Davies finished with 10 tackles and one sack.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- The Duhawks (0-6, 0-4 IIAC) didn't need much to get the offense in motion on Saturday, scoring on drives of 39 seconds and 34 seconds, highlighted by a 69-yard scamper from Minch and a 24-yard strike to senior Jon Powers.
- Following the touchdown to Powers, however, the offense went cold, as Wartburg rattled off 24-unanswered points to take a 38-14 lead nearing the end of the third quarter.
- Sophomore Nolan Baumhover hooked up with Powers for the second time of the day in the third quarter on a 55-yard pass to cut Wartburg's lead to 16 after the two-point conversion from redshirt junior Liam Kirwan.
- After forcing the Knights to punt after a 3-and-out, Minch took the ball from the Loras 20-yard line to the house for his second touchdown run of the day. The Davenport native went the distance needed only 14 seconds to bring the Duhawks within striking distance.
- On the two-point conversion, it was Baumhover who found sophomore Brad Boelkow, cutting the Wartburg lead to eight with over nine minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
- A fumble by Wartburg on the Loras 28-yard line provided the Duhawks with the means to complete the comeback. Baumhover and company did everything they could, marching down the field with a 15-play drive, but on 4th-and-11 from the Wartburg 19-yard line, Baumhover couldn't quite get enough yardage, turning the ball over on downs.
FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME
Zach Minch | The senior tailback recorded his fifth 100-yard game of the season and 10th of his Duhawk career. Minch nearly bested his career-long with his 80-yard run in the fourth quarter and now brings his season rushing total to 697 yards, which ranks in the top-25 in Division III.
