Duhawks Split on Day One in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras baseball team split on Saturday in Jacksonville against MSOE and UW-Platteville, defeating the Raiders, 14-1, and falling to UW-Platteville, 12-1. Sophomore Danny Weis combined to go 6-for-8 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored.

LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
  • In game one against MSOE, the Duhawks put a six-spot up in the first inning, thanks to four hits and benefiting from three Raider errors.
  • Weis opened the day with a double down the left field line. He eventually came around to score on a RBI single by Walsh to open the scoring.
  • Junior Thomas Johnson reached on an error, while Walsh and Heiser came around to score.
  • The offense outpouring continued with three more runs, capped by a RBI single by Weis, scoring Leibforth from second.
  • Senior Adrian Nunez opened the third inning with a double to left center and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Weis.
  • Loras added six more runs in the top of the seventh on seven hits, highlighted by by a RBI single from senior Lucas Jacque that scored sophomore Ryan Koester and senior Patrick Walsh.
  • On the mound, senior Alex Steines through six complete innings, allowing six hits and one unearned run. The senior struck out four, inducing nine flyball outs and four groundouts.
  • Over seven innings, the Duhawks ripped off 16 hits, making the most of four MSOE errors, ending the game due to mercy rule at 14-1.
  • In game two, Loras' offense was held in check, leaving eight runners on base.
  • Weis led the offense with two hits, while Nunez drove in the lone run of the game on a RBI single to right field in the top of the sixth.
  • After a stellar debut to his career last weekend against Mount Mercy, freshman Brian Pall was touched up for six hits and six runs, three earned, in three innings of work.
  • In relief, sophomore Adrian Wojciehowski and Matt Green combined to allow seven hits over three innings, conceding six runs to UW-Platteville.
  • The Pioneer offense took advantage of three Duhawk errors in the field, totaling five runs in the bottom of the third and another three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

UP NEXT
Loras returns to the diamond on Sunday, facing Elmhurst at 10 a.m. and Northland at 1 p.m. The Bluejays handed Northland a 7-2 loss on Saturday. The Lumberjacks suffered two losses on Saturday, falling 12-2 to MSOE in their first game of the day.
