Alex Steines went eight innings on the mound and struck out three. As a team, the Duhawks struck for 17 hits and were 7-for-15 with two outs.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- A pair of walks in the top of the first helped Loras get on the board with a RBI single up the middle by sophomore Ryan Koester, scoring Heiser from second.
- In the second, the first two Fontbonne hitters reached base and a single to right field tied the game at one.
- Back-to-back-to-back singles in the bottom of the third gave the Griffins their first lead of the game at 2-1.
- A double down the right field line by Patrick Shuff plated two more runs to extend the Fontbonne lead to 4-1.
- Junior Nolan Ritter opened the fifth inning with a bunt single down the third base line and advanced to second after the groundout by sophomore Danny Weis. After Heiser reached on an error, Walsh singled through the right side to bring Ritter around to score from second.
- After a flyout to leadoff the top of the sixth, Loras ripped off three straight hits, including a two-RBI single by Ritter on a 3-2 pitch.
- After a Griffin throwing error, which scored Ritter, Walsh drove in his second run of the day on a single to right field.
- The offense continued to operate at high octane, adding two more runs in the eighth and another pair in the ninth.
- Senior Alex Steines earned his second win of the season, throwing eight innings and striking out three. After the third inning, Steines held Fontbonne to one hit over the following five innings.
- Sophomore Robert Hovey came on in relief of Steines and threw one inning, allowing one hit.
- With his single in the eighth, senior Lucas Jacque extended his hitting streak to five games.
- Junior Thomas Johnson reached base for the fifth straight game, going 3-for-4.
- Ritter joined Walsh with four hits, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
