Grinnell Holds Duhawks in Check

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (Duhawks.com) - A day removed from a 17-hit performance, Loras' offense was scarce in a 13-3 loss to Grinnell on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Ryan Koester went 2-for-4 with a double in the loss.

LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Coming off a monster start against Elmhurst, sophomore Brad Schwind struggled to replicate similar success on Monday.
  • The Duhawk offense faced their first left handed pitcher of the season in Grinnell's Sam Tinkham and didn't register a hit until the the fourth inning.
  • The Pioneers struck for three runs on four hits in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Hammond.
  • Trailing 6-0, Loras put the ball in the hands of sophomore Pat Moriarty, who kept Grinnell off the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth innings.
  • In the home half of the sixth, the Duhawks got their offense in motion thanks to a leadoff single from sophomore Tony Heiser.
  • After a pair of strikeouts, senior Lucas Jacque singled to center, scoring Heiser from second. He would later come around to score on an error, cutting the Grinnell lead to 6-2.
  • The wheels fell off for Loras in the top of the seventh, as the first 10 batters reached base, including five hits, three of which went for extra bases.
  • In a hurry, what once was a four-run gap turned into an 11-run deficit as Grinnell totaled seven runs on five hits in the top of the seventh.
  • After a single from senior Luke Leibforth and a double from Koester, senior Patrick Walsh hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Leibforth from third.
  • With his single in the sixth, Jacque extended his hitting streak to six games. Heiser and sophomore Danny Weis are on five-game hitting streaks of their own.
