AUBURNDALE, Fla. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras baseball team bounced back on Tuesday with a 12-2 win over Martin Luther. Junior
Nolan Ritter continued his scorching hitting streak, going 4-for-4 with two singles, a double and a triple, scoring three runs in the process.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS - After suffering a 13-3 defeat at the hands of Grinnell on Monday, Loras returned to the diamond on Tuesday to face Martin Luther.
- After a delay which pushed the start time back an hour, freshman Brian Pall made his second start of his career, giving up two runs in the top of the first.
- While it took three innings to get the Duhawk offense in motion, Loras' pitching staff held strong, keeping the Knights off the scoreboard.
- Sophomore Aidan Wojciehowski came on in relief for Pall in the third and found himself in a bases loaded jam. With two outs, senior Lucas Jacque gunned out Martin Luther's Jonathan Kock at second base and Wojciehowski finished the inning with a punch out.
- Three hits in the third kickstarted the rally for the Duhawks, highlighted by doubles from Ritter and senior Patrick Walsh. A groundout from sophomore Danny Weis drove in Leibforth from third and Ritter came around to score on Walsh's double.
- A leadoff triple from Ritter started the fifth inning and Weis collected his second RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Ritter.
- Jacque followed Ritter's lead with a leadoff triple in the sixth and came in to score on a double from junior Thomas Johnson.
- With two outs, Leibforth drew a four-pitch walk and later came around to score on Weis' double to center for his third and fourth RBIs of the day, opening a 7-2 lead for the Duhawks.
- A 1-2-3 inning from sophomore Robert Hovey kept the Knights' bats silent in the top of the seventh, inducing a strikeout, ground out and fly out.
- Loras put the final touches on its 10-run win in the home half of the seventh with five hits and five runs, starting with a leadoff double by sophomore Ryan Koester.
- With the bases loaded, senior Adrian Nunez tripled to center to clear the bases, bringing his season RBI total to eight.
- The Duhawks tacked on three more singles and two more runs, ending the game by mercy rule, 12-2.
- Jacque extended his hitting streak to seven games, while Weis and junior Luke Leibforth extended their streaks to five games.
- Hovey made his third appearance from the bullpen and remained blemish-free, lowering his opponents' batting average to .154.
