AUBURNDALE, Fla. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras baseball team concluded its time in Florida on Thursday with a 10-1 win over Mount Saint Vincent. Senior
Alex Steines pitched eight innings of three-hit ball and struck out 15 batters for his third win of the season.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS - A one-out double in the top of the first came around to score for the Dolphins, but Steines hunkered down and struck out the side.
- The Duhawk offense got itself going in the bottom of the third, kickstarted by a leadoff triple by freshman Danny Paluch to the right-center gap.
- Loras added three more extra-base hits in the inning along with a RBI single from senior Lucas Jacque.
- When the dust settled, the Duhawks had created a 4-1 advantage heading to the fourth.
- The three run cushion was more than enough for Steines who had all four pitches working to perfection on Wednesday, keeping the Mount Saint Vincent batters off balance all game long. The senior finished with a career-high 15 strikeouts over eight innings.
- The 4-1 lead held firm until the bottom of the seventh when Loras tacked on five more runs with four more hits, extending its lead to 9-1.
- Freshman Richard Bryza drove in his first career collegiate run on his first collegiate hit in the eighth inning, driving in sophomore Danny Weis from third who led off the inning with a triple.
- Sophomore Ryan Koester finished 3-for-5 with one RBI.
- Freshman Austin Konagel went 2-for-2, coming on as a pinch hitter late in the game, driving in a pair of runs with his single to left field.
- Senior Lucas Jacque extended his hitting streak to 10 games while sophomore Ryan Koester now sits at seven games.
