Men's Volleyball Stumbles at Home Against Marian

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - After winning the first set, the Loras men's volleyball team dropped the next three sets, falling at home to Marian, 3-1. Sophomore Dylan Ross posted 12 kills, three digs and two assisted blocks in the loss.

LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Loras men's volleyball team hosted Marian on Friday night in Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League play for the first of two home matche s on the weekend.
  • Both teams traded points in the early parts of set one, with the Duhawks taking a 12-10 after a kill from freshman Greg Kinney.
  • Later in the frame, a service ace from freshman Ryan Galvan and subsequent Marian error allowed Loras to stretch its lead to four at 18-14.  
  • The Duhawks maintained their advantage to the finish line as a Sabre service error clinched the first set for the the home team, 25-22.
  • The second set was controlled by Marian, taking a 7-2 early advantage, which prompted a Loras timeout.
  • The Sabres maintained a healthy advantage for most of the set, but a 4-0 run by Loras at 21-16 forced Marian into a timeout.
  • After the break in the action, the Sabres regrouped and reeled off four of the last five points to take set two, 25-21, tying the match at 1-all.
  • Set three was the most back-and-forth of the evening as both sides traded leads throughout.
  • Midway through set two, the Sabres reeled off a 10-1 run, going from being down a point to leading 19-12.
  • The Duhawks were unable to stop the bleeding, trading six points the rest of the way to drop set three, 25-18.
  • With the momentum decidedly in the Sabres' corner, they got off to a fast start taking a 12-6 lead thanks to a service ace by Jon Satterston.
  • Loras once again struggled to fight its way back and were held to a five-point cushion the rest of the set.
  • A kill from Jon Smallpage capped the fourth set for Marian by a score of 25-20 and clinched the match for the Sabres, 3-1.
  • Marian improved to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the MCVL, while Loras fell to 6-9 and 1-5 in conference play.
  • Sophomore Dylan Ross led the attack with 12 kills and a .440 hitting percentage, his highest of the 2016 campaign.
  • Both Ross and freshman Ryan Galvan surpassed the 100-kill mark on the night, joining Kinney as the three Duhawks over the century mark for the  2016 season.
