MOLINE, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's tennis team went on the road Saturday to face St. Ambrose, dropping the road contest, 8-1.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- Contrary to normal dual matches, Saturday began with singles play due to court restrictions.
- At the No. 1 spot, junior Jessica Dickhut battled back from dropping the first set to push matters to a tiebreaker. In the end, St. Ambrose's Griffin Rasche prevailed, winning 10-7.
- A similar storyline played out at No. singles with sophomore Kylie DeWees squaring off against Mary Alice Oswalt. DeWees raced out to a first set win, 6-1.
- Oswalt responded with a 6-3 win in set two and used that momentum to carry over into the tiebreaker, in which she won 13-11.
- At No. 3 singles, freshman Emma Cooke found herself in yet another extra-curricular affair, fighting back from a 6-3 loss in set one, winning 6-0 in set two. In the tiebreaker, Cooke claimed victory, 10-8, fueled by her convincing win in set two.
- Sophomore Rachael Molidor fell 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot to Anne Bohnert.
- St. Ambrose added wins at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles, taking a 5-1 lead into the doubles portion of the dual.
- With the dual victory already in their grasp, the Bees added three more wins in doubles play to seal the win at 8-1.
UP NEXTLoras will make their way to Hilton Head, S.C., for its spring break trip. The trip will be the first under head coach
Chad Fenwick. The women's team will play three duals against the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, the University of St. Thomas and Greeville.
