Duhawks Pull Away from Concordia Chicago

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras College women's lacrosse team used dynamic second half to command a victory over the Concordia Chicago in the Rock Bowl win on Friday night. Sophomore Ashley McGee kept the Cougars in check throughout the game, recording seven saves on the night, six in the second half, limiting the Cougars to four goals on the night.

 
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Kaitlyn Kutsch wasted no time to get the game moving. The Dubuque native was the first to score, tallying the opening goal less than 45 seconds into the match.
  • Less than three minutes later, the Cougars retaliated with goal of their own to tie the game at 1-1.
  • With 23:18 remaining, Concordia Chicago took the lead 2-1 for the first and only time of the match.
  • Closing out the first ten minutes of the half, Kutsch converted a free position to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Three minutes later, Kutsch attacked again with her third-straight goal of the night to give Loras the 3-2 lead.
  • Freshman Martha Venchus capitalized on the offensive momentum and fired away her second goal of the year, giving the Duhawks a 4–2 lead.
  • Building on the attack, Kutsch added her fourth goal of the night increase Loras' lead to 5-2.
  • Looking for a spark, Concordia put a crack into the Loras lead with a goal of their own to bring the Cougars within two at 5-3.
  • Hoping to take control of the rest of the first half, senior Nadia Duarte used some fancy footwork to make her way past the Cougar defense. Handing the ball off to junior Anna Schwalbe, Schwalbe completed the drive with a goal to put Loras up 6-3.
  • Junior Hannah Nelson finished out the first half with a goal in the closing seconds to give Loras the 7-3 lead heading into the half.
  • After a quiet three minutes, Venchus found senior AnnaRose Einerson to open up the second half with a 8-3 lead.
  • Concordia found some fight to get the Cougar goal and cut the Loras lead to 8-4.
  • With 21:54 left, Kutsch executed successfully once again to continue the Loras lead to 9-4.
  • Sophomore Katie Kulas found her niche as well, netting her first goal of the 2016 season with 17:36 remaining.
  • Schwalbe struck lightning again with 11:46 left to give Loras the 11-4 lead.
  • Thirty seconds later, Kutsch produced her fifth goal of the night to put the Duhawks up 12-4.
  • Taking control, a goal from Freshman Emily O'Keefe put the Duhawks up nine goals as they began to near the final five minutes.
  • The Duhawks maintained defensive control and closed out the Cougars to get the 13-4 win.
