Duhawks Drop Pair to No. 2 Luther

DECORAH, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras softball team dropped a pair of conference games to No. 2Luther on the road on Tuesday. The Duhawks fell 15–5 in game one and 2–1 in game two. Junior Dani Stromert recorded two hits while driving in three runs.

LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Norse took the first lead of the game scoring one off a single with the bases loaded.
  • Loras responded in the second with three runs of their own in the top of the second.
  • Freshman Hannah Towns started the inning with a lead off walk. She came around to score on a sacrifice fly by freshman Lauren Fritz
  • Junior Dani Stromert smashed a two-RBI double to left field to open a 3–1 lead for the Duhawks.
  • This proved to be Loras' only lead of the game, however, as Luther exploded for seven runs off eight hits in their half of the second.
  • The Norse tacked on four more runs on five hits and one Duhawk error in the third, extending their lead to 12–3.
  • Despite the significant deficit, Loras continued to fight and scratched away a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth.
  • Freshman Megan Larson sent her fifth home run of the season over the fence in the fifth, but it was not enough to stave off the mercy rule as the Duhawks fell 15–5 in game one.
  • The second game featured a slower paced offense as neither team recorded a hit until the third inning.
  • Luther struck first scoring on an RBI single.
  • The Duhawks immediately responded as Stromert doubled to score junior Cate Paulsen and tie the game 1-all.
  • The Duhawk defense held the Norse hit-less in the fifth, but they managed to score one runner off three hits in the sixth to take the final lead and the game.

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Megan Larson | The freshman went 2-for-3 in game one with a home run in the fifth inning. She tallied three putouts at first base and maintained her place atop the team with nine multiple-hit games.
Dani Stromert | The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native went 2–for-3 in game two with the lone RBI of the game. With a hit in both games of the doubleheader, the junior increased her on base streak to 21 games.
