MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team fell to Cornell in four sets on Thursday night, 25–14, 25–18, 25–27, 25–20. Senior
Danni Kennedy led the Duhawks in kills, posting 12 total on a .310 attack percentage. Junior
Haley Bergan became the second all-time digs leader for Loras in the loss, posting 20 digs in defeat to bring her career total to 1,343.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
SET ONE
- Trailing 11–10, Cornell used a five-point run to hop into the driver's seat and open a substantial lead.
- The Rams utilized the middle attack to their advantage, with the combination of Nicole Ciari and Lauren Ahart recording seven kills in the first frame.
- Cornell closed on a 14–3 run to take the opening set, 25–14.
SET TWO
- Loras struggled to find its rhythm early in the second set as the Rams opened on a 10–5 run.
- The Duhawks trimmed the Cornell lead late in the set, trailing by two at 19–17.
- Following a timeout from head coach Jenna Ness, the Rams regained their early form, scoring six of the last seven points to take the second set, 25–18, and a 2–0 lead in the match.
SET THREE
- With the Cornell offense clicking in set three, the Rams forced a timeout from the Duhawks while holding a commanding 14–5 advantage.
- Loras climbed back into the frame, using a 10–4 run to force a Cornell timeout, trailing 18–15.
- A block from senior Danni Kennedy followed by a Ram error evened the score at 21–21 late in the set.
- With the frame even at 25, the Duhawks posted two consecutive kills, taking the third set in come-from-behind fashion, 27–25.
SET FOUR
- In the most back-and-forth frame of the evening, the Rams gained the upper hand early, taking a 14–10 lead after a three-point run.
- An attacking error from the Rams trimmed to deficit to one deficit for Loras, 17–16, but Cornell used a pivotal four-point run to regain control of set four.
- Following a Duhawk timeout, both teams traded points to the end and the Rams came out on top in set four, 25–19, and took the match, 3–1.
