STORM LAKE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's tennis team concluded its weekend roadtrip on Sunday afternoon with an Iowa Conference win over Buena Vista before dropping a non-conference decision to Grand View.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- The Duhawks opened doubles play against the Beavers with wins at all three spots. Seniors Kylie DeWees and Jessica Dickhut won 8-2, sophomore Emma Cooke and freshman McKenna Craff won 8-2, and the junior tandem of Ayla Graziano and Rachael Molidor won 8-3.
- Buena Vista tacked on a pair of wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, with the No. 5 match between Madison Gierstorf and freshman Casey Zavodney going to tiebreaker. Zavodny battled back after dropping the first set, 7-5, to win the second, 6-3. In the tiebreaker, Gierstorf responded with a 10-8 win.
- In Loras' second dual of the day, Grand View claimed all three points in doubles to take a commanding lead.
- Cooke registered the lone victory at the No. 3 spot, winning over Alli Thomsen, 6-2, 6-0.
- Once Grand View reached five points for the dual, the matches in progress were halted and left unfinished.
UP NEXT
Loras will host Ripon and St. Ambrose on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Bernie O'Connor Tennis Center, on the campus of Wahlert Catholic High School. All of the Duhawks home matches this fall will be played at Wahlert Catholic while renovations begin at Loras' tennis courts.
