Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Comeback for No. 24 Duhawks Not Enough in Loss to UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Duhawks.com) - By the time senior Alex Bradley found the back of the net, it was too little too late as the No. 24 Loras men's soccer team (4-3-0) suffered a 2-1 setback on Wednesday night against UW-Whitewater (5-2-2). The Duhawks found themselves fighting from behind early after a Warhawk goal in the third minute. The lead for UW-Whitewater was doubled to two in the 72nd minute before Bradley recorded his fourth goal of the year in the 80th minute.

FIRST HALF
  • The Warhawks earned a free kick right outside the box in the third minute of play and Justin Stanko gave his team the early lead by delivering his shot around the wall and into the back of the net for the goal.
  • Besides for the early let up, Loras controlled the half by out shooting UW-Whitewater 12-2, including seven shots on target to the Warhawks' two. The Duhawks nearly found the equalizer in the sixth minute when junior Spencer Moore connected a give-and-go pass with senior Kyler Olson with Moore getting a clean shot off in the box and saved by Chris Lucatorto.
  • Loras started to create chances in transition when in the 12th minute Olson collected a loose ball and struck his shot from the corner of the box to the near post, but Lucatorto was there to make the save.
  • Moore was involved in the Duhawk attack again when he had possession of the ball in the far corner and managed to beat a pair of defenders before ripping his shot near-post that was sent out for a Loras corner kick.
  • The Warhawks created a scoring chance in transition when in the 30th minute Jack Wirth delivered a shot from outside of the 18, but his shot went wide of goal.
  • Loras' final chance of the half came in the 39th minute when senior Austin Jacobi found the head of fellow senior Calvin Miller, but Miller's header went wide of frame.

SECOND HALF
  • Jordan Kayser for the Warhawks had the ball on the near sideline 25 yards out, turned his defender and fired a shot right at senior Jacob Peterson.
  • Loras nearly tied up the match when senior Alex Bradley found Miller, who once again put his header wide of the net.
  • The Warhawks doubled their lead when Hozai Ceballos lost his mark and gained possession of the ball. He then proceeded to beat the next defender, which set up a 1v1 against Peterson and Ceballos tucked his shot past the Loras goalkeeper.
  • Loras cut the UW-Whitewater lead to one when Jacobi floated a ball over the Warhawk back line where Bradley ran onto it and hit his shot past the outstretched hand of Chirs Lucatorto.
  • With time running out, the Duhawks sent numbers forward in search of the equalizer, but UW-Whitewater withstood the barrage to hold one for the 2-1 win.
