Women's Tennis Splits on Opening Day

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's tennis team opened the 2016 season on Saturday with a win against MSOE, 8-1, and a loss against UW-Stevens Point, 5-4. Senior Jessica Dickhut went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles to lead the Duhawks.

In the first match of the day, Loras swept all three doubles decisions, winning 8-4 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3. The momentum carried over into singles play where the Duhawks took five of six matches to win their first dual of the year. Junior Ayla Graziano and freshman McKenna Craff won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Later, Loras stumbled out of the gates, dropping each doubles match. No. 1 and No. 3 doubles were closely contested, with the Duhawks falling 8-6 in both matches. Despite having their backs to the walls, Loras battled resiliently to take four of the six singles matches, but losses at No. 1 and No. 5 sealed the win for the Pointers.

UP NEXT
Loras travels to Madison on Sunday for a pair of duals against Edgewood and Alverno. First serve against Edgewood is scheduled for 9 a.m.
