Men's Soccer Bounces Back to Bury Beavers

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's soccer team righted the ship on Wednesday night inside the Rock Bowl, topping Buena Vista, 6-0. Senior Spencer Moore and sophomore Raudel Fierro each recorded a goal and an assist in the win.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
-Similar to the women's match on Wednesday, Loras scored early, with Moore's tally in the 17th minute, which set the tone and helped the Duhawks get back on track
-Minutes later, junior Josh Niloff fought his way through traffic on a corner and made it 2-nil
-Fierro sent the Duhawks into the halftime break with a three-goal advantage with his strike in the 38th minute
-Loras' longest goal drought of the night was 20 minutes, spanning from Fierro's first half strike to Broderick's header in the 58th minute
-Less than seven minutes after Broderick's goal, freshman Edin Galvez found a hole and slotted home his first of the season
-Five minutes after missing a sitter inside the six, freshman Alejandro Espinosa made good on his second shot, netting his first goal of the season

-Sophomore Jesse Buffington earned his first career win in goal after playing 45 minutes on Wednesday and earned the partial shutout along with redshirt sophomore Jack Monson
-On the same day that he was called up from the reserves roster, Espinsosa tallied his first career goal, capping the scoring in the 85th minute
-Fierro netted his first career goal, bringing his career point total to four
-Galvez scored his first career goal on Wednesday
-Junior Jackson Kallman's assist on sophomore Mark Broderick's goal was the Gretna native's first point of his career
-Niloff scored his first career goal in the 22nd minute
-Senior Carter Olson's assist on Espinosa's goal in the 85th minute was the first of his career

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME - MARK BRODERICK
Loras dominated the 50-50 balls in the midfield on Wednesday, largely in part to Broderick aerial ability. Minutes after being denied his third goal, Broderick headed on the throw-in from junior Jackson Kallman past the keeper. Broderick's career point total now stands at 11 with four goals and three assists. The Valley prep recorded a career-high four shots in Wednesday's win.

UP NEXT
The Duhawks head to Decorah on Saturday for a conference tilt against Luther. On Wednesday night, the Norse played to a 1-1 draw with UW-Platteville and enter the weekend with a 6-3-2 overall record and 2-0-0 mark in conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
