Duhawks Downed by Simpson

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras football team had its Homecoming celebration dampened on Saturday, both literally and figuratively, as Simpson spoiled the celebration with a 31-17 victory. Senior Josh Schulte caught 13 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown while junior Walter Ollie totaled nine tackles, including seven solo stops.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
-Loras grabbed its only lead of the day in the first quarter after senior Mason Quigley's 37-yard field goal with 9:46 on the clock
-Midway through the second quarter, Loras' defense exploited a weakness in the Storm offensive line and recorded back-to-back-to-back sacks, forcing the Simpson quarterback, Sam Sasso from the game
-Sasso left the game in the second quarter and did not return … Prior to his departure, Sasso was 11-of-14 for 145 yards and had 22 rushing yards with a rushing touchdown
-Kelly orchestrated a 14-play, 82-yard drive late in the second quarter and completed 8-of-9 passes, finishing with a two-yard touchdown pass to senior Josh Schulte with 44 seconds remaining in the half
-Simpson's first drive of the second half stalled after seven plays and after getting the ball back, the Duhawks mounted a 17-play drive that took 6:46 off the clock, ending with Quigley's second field goal of the game
-With time ticking down and chasing an 11-point deficit, Loras marched down the field to the Storm's six-yard line when Kelly was picked off at the two by Ryan Lehr, who proceeded to take it 98 yards for the touchdown
-The Duhawks only needed 2:01 of game clock to get the offense back in motion, capping their drive with a 11-yard touchdown catch by senior Mikey Castoro
Simpson recovered the ensuing onside kick and converted on 3rd-and-12 to seal the win
