SCOUTING REPORT: LUTHER
Loras' bye week provided the Duhawks the opportunity to spend two weeks preparing for an opposing offense unlike anything else that they've seen this year. Luther runs the triple option and has historically had above average success with it. This season alone, the Norse have rushed for 2,757 yards and have four players with over 400 yards, validating the multiple-threat approach. Nick Slavens leads Luther with 606 yards on the ground, averaging 8.9 per carry. Dual-threat quarterback Brady Letney has 10 rushing touchdowns this season to go along with four in the air. Heading into the final game of the season, Luther's pass defense has limited opponents to 212.9 yards per game. In comparison, Loras has had one game this season in which it has finished with less than 212 yards, coming in the season-opener against Elmhurst. Since then, the Duhawks' lowest passing production was 262 yards against league-leading Wartburg.
WEEK NINE RECAP
Following a thrilling win over Coe in Week Eight, Loras was brought back to reality on the road against Central, suffering a 65-24 setback. The statistics tell a different story than the scoreline as the Duhawks held the advantage in first downs (29), passing yards (411) and third down conversions (7-of-20). However, it was the blitz attack by the Dutch in the first half that resulted in 48 points and created a gap too large for Loras to overcome.
KEYS TO THE GAME
In theory, Luther's approach to Saturday is fairly simple: run the ball. For the Duhawks, if they can contain the running game and limit the big play, it will give their offense plenty of snaps to create scoring chances. However, if the Norse can dictate the pace like they did in 2015 when they ran for 351 yards and held Loras to less than 300 yards of passing and 31 rushing yards, it will be the Blue & White celebrating instead of the Purple & Gold.
ONE LAST TIME
For 18 members of the Loras football program, Saturday will be the last time they strap on the pads and walk through Duhawk Plaza as a student-athlete. This senior class has provided the leadership to bounce back from last year's one-win season and has the Duhawks within one win of a .500 season for the first time since 2010.
RECORDS IN SIGHT
In total, eight individual records are at risk of being broken on Saturday in all three facets of the game. Senior
Bob Kelly needs 115 yards to break the single-season passing record and is 499 yards shy of the all-time passing record, held by Dave Dietz with 6,196 yards. Junior
Walter Ollie needs six kick returns to break the single-season record of 32 and can become the all-time leader in kick return yardage with 73 yards on Saturday. Currently, Ollie's kick return average this season is 28.3 yards per return, which is in line to become the single-season record, surpassing T.C. Crenshaw's mark of 25.0 yards in 1986. Senior
Mason Quigley needs one field goal to break the single-season record of 13 set by Chris Gardner in 1988.
