Men's Volleyball Swept by Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's volleyball team suffered a three-set sweep on Saturday against Marian, 25-17, 25-21, 25-18. Junior Dylan Ross contributed on both ends of the floor by finishing with eight kills and an attack percentage of .240, while collecting seven digs. 

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED 
Set One
  • Marian jumped out to an early three-point advantage in the first frame before opening a 18-15 lead.
  • Loras maintained striking distance throughout the middle portion of the set, but a kill by the Sabres' Jon Sattersten forced a timeout from head coach Jeremy Thornburg.
  • The timeout did little to slow the Marian momentum, as the Sabres scored three of the final four points to take the first set, 25-17, closing on a 7-2 run.

Set Two
  • An even start eventually gave way to a four-point lead for the Sabres at 11-7.
  • Back-to-back kills from Marian prompted a timeout from Thornburg, which quelled the rally thanks to a three-point run for the Duhawks.
  • The Sabres put away took a 2-0 lead in the match with a kill coupled with a pair of Loras attacking errors, 25-21.

Set Three
  • Seven errors from the Duhawks paved the way to an early 7-1 lead for Marian in the third set.
  • Out of the Duhawk timeout, Loras cut the Sabre lead to 7-5 before Marian went on a substantial 9-2 run and a 16-7 lead in the frame.
  • The Duhawks outscored Marian 11-9 over the final 20 points, but the Sabres prevailed to win the third set, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.
  • Marian would hold the Purple & Gold at bay to win the frame 25-18 and complete the sweep.

Austin Kuchenbecker |  The sophomore from Muskego, Wis. shined this afternoon in his home state, posting five kills and a .300 attack percentage in the match.
