Duhawks Roll Through Bluejays

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's lacrosse team brought plenty of offense on Tuesday night, defeating Elmhurst, 19-3, inside the Rock Bowl. Senior Anna Schwalbe led the scoring effort with six goals and one assist, recording her second six-goal effort of the 2017 campaign. Freshman Rebecca Hiebing totaled five ground balls and four caused turnovers to anchor the defense.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
  • Loras jumped all over the Bluejays to open the first half, tallying three goals from Hanson and Nelson (2) in the first four minutes to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
  • After an Elmhurst timeout, Schwalbe joined the scoring action, netting two goals in 34 seconds at the 20:59 and 20:35 mark.
  • The flurry of goals continued for the Duhawk offense, this time scoring two goals in 17 seconds, from the sticks of senior Brittany Miller (16:37) and freshman Olivia Flynn (16:20).
  • Despite a Bluejay tally to close the half, Loras dominated the first half, taking a 12-1 lead into intermission.

Second Half
  • Schwalbe and Flynn scored the first four goals of the second half for the Duhawks, putting Loras ahead 16-2 at the 16:32 mark.
  • Elmhurst tacked on their third goal of the night with the Bluejays' Ellen Brown scored her second goal of the night, this time on a free position goal. 
  • With less than four minutes remaining on the clock, senior Sarah James tallied her second goal of the night off a pass from Flynn. 
  • The Duhawks sealed their 19-3 victory when junior AnnaRose Einarsen found the back of the net for her first goal of the season with less than two minutes on the clock.

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME
Anna Schwalbe | The senior from Kenosha, Wis. continued her torrid start to 2017, tallying seven points (6G, 1A) in the victory. Schwalbe also collected three ground balls while adding one caused turnover. 

NOTABLES
  • The 16-goal victory eclipses the previous program-record scoring margin of 10 goals set in a 14-4 win on March 29, 2014 vs Fontbonne
  • Loras' 19 goals are the second-most scored in a single game in program history (20, March 22 2016 vs Hilbert)
  • Hanson needs one goal to tie her season-high, set as a freshman
