Women's Lacrosse Dismantles Lumberjills

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's lacrosse team used a 9-0 run in the first half to build a comfortable lead and never looked back, defeating Northland 20-7 on Thursday night inside the Rock Bowl. Freshman Olivia Flynn tallied six goals and added nine ground balls and four caused turnovers.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
  • Flynn opened the scoring less than two minutes into the night with her 13th of the season.
  • Loras doubled its lead after a goal from senior Hannah Nelson at the 25:05 mark of the half.
  • Northland tallied the next two goals, including a free position goal from Ashley Hammes, which prompted a timeout from head coach Sam Koenig.
  • Out of the timeout, the Duhawks rattled off the next nine goals to take a commanding 11-2 lead into the half, capped by freshman Rebecca Hiebing's first career goal with 18 seconds remaining.
  • Sophomore Molly Dougherty was responsible for three of the nine goals on Loras' extended scoring streak, recording her first career hat-trick.

Second Half
  • Despite the Lumberjills scoring two of the first three goals to start the second half, the Duhawk offense simply had too much firepower on Thursday, ripping off a four-goal run, resulting in a 16-5 advantage.
  • Loras struck for four goals in the final 15 minutes to extend the gap over Northland to 13 at 20-7.
  • Senior Anna Schwalbe scored four of her five goals in the second half and now sits at a team-best 24 for the season.
  • The Kenosha, Wis. native added two assists, both on goals scored by Dougherty to bring her total to five.

NOTABLES
  • Loras reached the four-win mark and moves to within one win of the program record for wins in a season
  • Schwalbe moved past the 60-goal mark for her career and now averages more than one goal per game
  • With two goals on Thursday, Hanson extended her scoring streak to seven games and is the only Duhawk to score in each game this season
