Hannah Nelson netted a hat-trick to pace the Duhawk attack and adding two assists while picking up five ground balls. Defensively, Loras kept the Cougars scoreless in the second half thanks to five saves by junior
Ashley McGee.
MOMENTS THAT MATTEREDÂ
First Half
- Nelson came up big in the first five minutes for the Duhawks, scoring the opening goal inside the first minute of play and later adding a helper on junior Sarah Hanson's 19th of the season with 25:33 remaining.
- After freshman Rebecca Hiebing picked up the ground ball and dished it to freshman Olivia Flynn who took it coast-to-coast before slotting her perfect pass to Hanson for the quick stick shot.
- Nine seconds after picking up a ground ball and earning the Duhawks a successful clearing attempt, sophomore Sarah James netted a winner in transition to give Loras a 4-0 lead.Â
- Within five minutes, the Cougars pulled within two goals after netting two of their first three shot attempts with 13:37 remaining on the clock.Â
- Concordia Chicago followed up the goal-scoring effort with another of their own to pull within one after cleaning up a loose ball in front of Loras' goal and finding the back of the net.
- The last 10 minutes of the first half saw the Duhawks put pressure on Cougar defense, forcing three failed clearing attempts, the last of which junior Katie Kulas capitalized on for her third goal of the season.
- Before the half was through, Concordia Chicago cut the Loras lead to one with a goal by Sydney Fuller with 2:03 remaining.
Second HalfÂ
- A sharp save from McGee in front of the net kept the Duhawk in front less than 90 seconds into the half. Â
- Nelson once again gave Loras a strong start to the period, picking up her second assist of the day with a feed to senior Brittany Miller for her sixth goal of the season.Â
- Hanson completed the hat-trick with a goal at 24:45 assisted by James shortly followed with a goal from Flynn two minutes later.Â
- A big save from McGee off a free position shot from the Cougars held Loras' lead at 8-4 with 21:08 remaining on the clock.Â
- The Duhawks kept Concordia Chicago off the board for the entirety of the second half, and tacked on five goals 20 minutes of play.
- Both Nelson and James recorded hat-tricks to join Hanson in the scoring party.
