MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Half
- Within the first five minutes, two of Loras' shots found the back of the net, but were called illegal after two called crease violations.Â
- Loras thought it had struck gold early with a pair of goals, but had them called back due to crease violations.
- The Pioneers converted an offensive rally to grab their first lead of the game at the 24:36 mark of the first half.
- Carroll increased its lead to three after a pass from the perimeter connected inside the eight-meter under 10 minutes into the opening frame.
- Junior Katie Kulas tallied the first goal of the night for Loras at the 12:11 mark as the Savoy, Ill. native cut through Carroll defenders to find the  back of the net.Â
- The Duhawks rallied for another goal, this time from senior Anna Schwalbe, to cut the Pioneer lead to one minutes later.
- Within a minute of play, a save from junior Ashley McGee earned Loras a scoring opportunity when a pass from sophomore Molly Dougherty found junior Sarah Hanson for a goal at 7:53 to tie the game at 3-all.
- The Duhawks rattled off three straight goals in the final 3:07 of the half, one coming from senior Hannah Nelson and two from Schwalbe for a 7-4 Duhawk lead heading into halftime.Â
Second Half
- Once again, Carroll opened the scoring in the second half after a goal from Donna January.
- Sharp defensive play from Hanson stopped another early Pioneer run before it could begin. The Hartland, Wis. native caused a turnover in the Carroll defensive zone and immediately rifled her shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the evening and an 8-5 Loras lead.
- Schwalbe tacked on her fifth goal of the night after a pass from Nelson, slotting home her shot at the top of the crease with 21 minutes remaining in regulation.Â
- The Duhawks and and Carroll remained scoreless over the next 10 minutes of play until the Pioneers struck for their sixth goal with 11:30 remaining, cutting Loras' lead to three at 9-6.
- Four unanswered goals from the Duhawks put the game out of reach, earning Loras its first win of the season.
