STORM LAKE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras baseball team salvaged a split on Wednesday night against Buena Vista, dropping game one, 3-1, before taking game two, 6-2. Junior
Aidan Wojciehowski locked down the victory in the night cap, throwing three innings of relief, while striking out six to earn his first save of the season.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Game One
- Senior Luke Leibforth and junior Danny Weis led off the game with back-to-back singles that ignited the Duhawk offense. After a sacrifice bunt from junior Ryan Koester, Leibforth came around to score on a wild pitch giving Loras an early lead.
- Junior Brad Schwind kept the Beaver offense in check for 4 2/3 innings, not allowing a hit until the bottom of the fourth. Schwind finished with five strikeouts.
- Buena Vista finally broke through and scored its first run in the bottom half of the fifth after a lead off double coupled with a sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice.
- The Beavers took the lead in the bottom of the seventh and added an insurance run in the eighth to open a 3-1 lead.Â
- In hopes of sparking a comeback, sophomore Austin Konagel and senior Tony Heiser reached base on consecutive singles but the next two hitters were retired in order to end the rally and preserve the Buena Vista victory.
Game Two
- Sophomore Danny Paluch delivered a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, driving a 3-1 pitch over the right field fence.
- The Beavers got a run back the next half inning on an RBI single by Noah Paper.Â
- Junior Patrick Moriarty came in relief in the second inning and held the Beavers scoreless for the next four innings until Buena Vista tied the game on a fielder's choice.Â
- After Buena Vista committed a balk moving Koester to second, senior Nolan Ritter drove him home for a 3-2 Loras lead.Â
- In relief of Moriarty, Wojciehowski struck out six Beaver hitters over the next three innings, preserving the win and earning the junior his second career save.Â
- In the top of the ninth, Loras gave Wojciehowski three insurance runs on three hits, capped by an RBI single from sophomore Jake Oglesby, sending the Duhawks to a 6-2 win.

Luke Leibforth | The Brother Rice prep extended his hitting streak to 12 in game one, going 2-for-5 scoring the lone run for the Duhawks. Leibforth's batting average is now at .328 with 15 RBIs on the season.Â
Aidan Wojciehowski I The relief pitcher preserved the 3-2 Duhawk lead, throwing three innings of relief to propel Loras to victory. Wojciehowski struck out six for his second career save and first this season.Â
