WINONA, Minn. (Duhawks.com) - For the first time under head coach
Chad Fenwick, the Loras women's tennis team claimed victory at the Iowa Conference Team Tournament, advancing past third-seeded Dubuque on Friday, 5-2. The win marks the first victory for the Duhawks in the postseason since 2003 when Loras secured a fifth-place finish with wins in the consolation bracket.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Out of the gates, Loras took a crucial 2-1 lead in doubles play, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Sophomore Emma Cooke and junior Ayla Graziano defeated Dubuque's Naomi Amani and Megan Ranney, 8-2. At No. 3, freshman McKenna Craff and sophomore Rachael Molidor defeated Mariah Scott and A. Palacrios Quinones, 8-5.
- In the regular season meeting, Loras also took wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles with the Spartans winning at No. 1.
- At No. 2 singles, senior Jessica Dickhut flipped the script and defeated Ines Albino, 6-1, 6-1. When the two met back in October, it was Albino who won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
- Cooke ran her winning streak to 16 matches and improved to 21-2 this season, defeating Quinones, 6-4, 6-2.
- Graziano staked her claim to a victory at No. 5, defeating Amani, 6-0, 6-3.
- Matches at No. 4 and No. 6 were halted once the match was determined.
