Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 19 Men's Soccer Throttles No. 18 Carthage, 4-0

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The 19th-ranked Loras men's soccer team came out like a team on a mission Sunday and made it blatantly clear that Wednesday's loss was an oddity. With a pair of goals in each half, the Duhawks handed Carthage a 4-nil defeat, improving to 4-2-0 this season.

STARTING XI – LORAS
1 – Peterson / 2 – Berardi / 4 – McDonnell
5 – Pacholski / 9 – Simon / 10 – Ross
12 – Perhats / 13 – Moore / 17 – Histed
19 – Broderick / 23 – Bruns

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
-Coming off a 3-0 setback to No. 3 Chicago, Loras wasted little time in taking control of Sunday's matinee as senior Spencer Moore drew the foul and proceeded to deliver the service to the back post and connect with the head of Simon
-Sophomore Alex Herrera doubled the lead after senior Raudel Fierro fed the West Des Moines native inside the penalty area before slotting home the insurance goal to the far post
-In a span of 65 seconds in the second half, the Duhawks' increased their lead from two to four with goals from sophomore Mark Broderick and Simon

NOTABLES

-Simon notched his fifth and sixth goals on the season, including his second from the penalty spot … With his goal in the seventh minute, the transfer surpassed his sophomore year's total at UW-Oshkosh … After Sunday, Simon needs three goals to tie his previous career-best of nine
-Senior Jacob Peterson and redshirt sophomore Jack Monson combined for a shutout, the third for the Duhawk keepers this season … Three of Loras' four wins this season have been clean sheets
-With the win, Loras improves to 4-2-0 all-time against Carthage
-Simon becomes the first Duhawk since Mike Richter to score six goals in the first six matches of the season … In 2006, Richter tallied six goals in his first five matches, including a hat-trick against Augustana on Sept. 13
-Last 4-0 non-conference win in the Rock Bowl was Sept. 2, 2012 against Saint Mary's (Minn.)
-Senior Jacob Peterson rebounded from Wednesday's loss to post his third clean sheet in his last four outings, improving to 4-2-0 this season
-The Duhawks held Carthage's leading goal scorer to one shot

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME – JAVI SIMON
The Kimberly, Wis. native continued his torrid start to his Duhawk career as he notched his fifth and sixth goals of the young season. Simon registered four points on the two goals, pushing his team-leading total to 13.
