2016 RECAP
Loras will look to close the chapter that was 2016 after a 1-9 season. Five of those nine losses came by 10 points or less. Turnovers plagued the Duhawk offense in 2016 and with redshirt junior Bob Kelly under center and commandeering the troops on offense, head coach Steve Helminiak hopes that the 2017 story takes a new turn.

FINDING OFFENSIVE BALANCE
After posting back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons on the ground, Loras will be without Zach Minch in the backfield for 2017 and will need to find an offensive threat to complement the aerial attack. The return of redshirt senior Josh Schulte should help matters after Schulte missed the 2016 season due to injury.

KELLY'S OFFENSE
Week One starter, redshirt junior Bob Kelly, returns under center with renewed vigor after splitting time last season. No player has taken more snaps under Helminiak than Kelly in the last three seasons and the St. Laurence prep is ready to lead the offense this season.

SUPER-SENIORS
Three members of the 2017 roster will line up on Saturday with more experience on the gridiron than most of their teammates. For Austin Epple, Josh Schulte and Mark Tilkes, they've returned for one more season of Duhawk Football. Tilkes is enrolled as a graduate student at Loras, while Schulte is awaiting admittance to medical school and Epple is committed to serving in the armed forces. The experience and leadership of these three shined through in preseason camp and it is expected to continue to make an impact throughout the regular season.

CAMPBELL TAKES THE REIGNS OF YOUTHFUL DEFENSIVE BACKS
Kenny Campbell joins the staff for his first season and inherited a young core of student-athletes in the defensive secondary. A former football student-athlete himself at UW-Stevens Point, Campbell most recently served as an assistant coach at Carroll.
