Comeback Falls Short for Men's Basketball

INDIANOLA, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The five-game winning streak for the Loras men's basketball team came to an end on Saturday following a 97-88 loss to Simpson. Junior Ryan DiCanio led the Duhawks with 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while junior Josh Ruggles chipped in 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds. 

SERIES NOTABLES
- In the programs' 98th meeting, the Storm's win brought the series record to 52-46, favoring the Duhawks … Loras is 7-3 in its last 10 meetings against Simpson

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- After the Duhawks got on the board first, the Storm went on an 8-0 run to begin the first half
- Junior Will McClaughry tied the game at 18-all with a 3-pointer
- A layup from junior Jake Toman gave Loras a 4-point advantage with less than two minutes remaining in the half until Simpson score five unanswered points to end the period and take a one-point lead into halftime. 
- In the first eight minutes of the second half, the Storm ripped a 21-10 run to take their largest lead of the day, 61-49.
- Loras cut Simpson's lead as the Duhawks found an 8-point run of their own, which included five points from DiCanio
- Facing an 11-point deficit, Ruggles drained a 3-pointer to pull Loras to within eight with four minutes to play
- Ruggles converted his second and-1 sequence of the day to cut the Storm's lead to three with 40 seconds on the clock

- Loras recorded 27 assists on 33 baskets … 27 assists is second-highest on the year for the Duhawks. 
- Four free-throws on four attempts are both season-lows for Loras, the previous season lows for both are nine free-throws on 12 attempts
- Loras' 18 3-pointers is the second highest total this season

INDIVIDUAL NOTABLES
- Saturday marks DiCanio's seventh-straight game scoring 15 points or more … His career point total now stands at 920 … The Bartlett prep  did not commit a single turnover on Saturday owns an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.5
- Sophomore Matt Dacy-Seijo recorded a season-high three shots from distance and finished with nine points

- The Bartlett, Ill. native knocked down eight buckets for 19 total points while chipping in nine rebounds and eight assists while committing zero turnovers. 

UP NEXT
The Duhawks head home to host Nebraska Wesleyan in a tilt between last year's conference co-champions. After a 51-point win over Luther on Saturday, the Prairie Wolves are 12-1 and 3-1 in the Iowa Conference. Loras is slotted for a 8 p.m. tip-off from inside the Athletic & Wellness Center.
