Fourth Quarter Surge Seals Comeback Win for Duhawks

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - After trailing for the first 59:12 of Saturday's American Rivers contest, Noah Sigwarth scampered eight yards into the end zone for the score and Loras' first lead of the day. The Duhawks tallied 21 points in the fourth quarter and held Buena Vista to 32 yards of offense, pulling out the 44-40 win.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• Loras' offense really didn't get going until late in the third quarter, having been held to 10 points despite totaling over 200 yards of offense
• Following a Beavers punt that gave the Duhawks fantastic field position at the Buena Vista 40, Cody Mighell kickstarted the comeback, running in the touchdown on a 13-yard rush
• After a 3-and-out by the Beavers, Elijah Thomas once again proved why he is one of the up and coming stars of the program, taking the handoff and running 64 yards for the score, cutting the deficit to 11
• Loras entered the fourth quarter trailing by 17, but was quick to cut into the Buena Vista lead as Noah Sigwarth connected with Brad Boelkow from 18 yards out on the second play of the quarter
• With under seven minutes to go, the Beavers moved all the way down to the Loras one-yard line before being denied and turning the ball over on downs ... The defensive stop fueled the Duhawks on their next possession, going 99 yards on seven plays, capped by a 17-yard touchdown pass to Mike McDevitt to make it 40-37
• Another 3-and-out for Buena Vista gave Loras the ball with 2:42 on the clock at the Duhawk 35 ... Three of the first four plays on the drive went for double-digit yards, quickly moving Loras to the Beavers' 11-yard line ... It was there, with 48 seconds left in the game, that Sigwarth made his way to paydirt to give Loras its first lead of the game
Brandon Niemeier intercepted the Buena Vista pass to seal the comeback victory

NOTABLES
• Boelkow needs one touchdown reception to tie his previous season-high from 2016
• Mighell set a new season-high with 334 rushing yards and needs one touchdown to tie his high from last season
• Niemeier's pick at the end of the game was his second of the season and second of his career
• Sigwarth moved past 1,000 passing yards for the season and has played a role in 14 touchdowns this season (10 passing, 4 rushing)
• Thomas maintained his high average on yards per carry at 8.1
Walker Even finished with a career-high 8.0 tackles, which included 1.5 tackles for loss
Chris Miller was a consistent threat in the backfield for the defense, finishing with 3.5 sacks on Saturday
• Thomas tied a career-high with 145 kick return yards
