Men's Volleyball Earns Comeback Win Over Wittenberg

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's volleyball team needed a fifth set on Saturday, but made the most of the extra volleyball, taking down Wittenberg, 3-2. Leo Peters turned in a monster day out of the middle, finishing with 13 kills, seven blocks and three service aces, all while hitting .750.

SERIES NOTABLES
- Loras improves to 2-1 all-time against the Tigers … All three meetings have gone to five sets, with each win going to the home team

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Set One
- Dylan Ross added a kill and a service ace to push Loras ahead 16-13
- Four unanswered points gave the Duhawks the advantage late in the first set with kills by Peters and Greg Kinney

Set Two
- Leading 10-7, Wittenberg opened the gap with a 5-0 run
- Late in the second set, Loras went on a 9-3 run to tie it up at 24 thanks to a pair of service aces by Peters

Set Three
- Set three was neck and neck until Wittenberg rattled off four straight points trailing 21-20 to take the late lead
- A solo block by Aaron Miller brought the Duhawks to within striking distance, but a Wittenberg kill on the next service handed the Tigers the 25-23 win

Set Four 
- Trailing 9-8, Loras crafted a 6-2 run to switch the momentum and take the lead midway through the set
- Kills by Dylan Ross, Joe Jendra and Austin Kuckenbecker were powerful momentum swings to help give the Duhawks a 25-23 set win

Set Five
- It was all Duhawks in the fifth set as they took an 8-3 lead from four kills from Ross
- Holding match point at 14-9, Wittenberg fended off Loras for three consecutive points before conceding a kill to Jendra

TEAM NOTABLES
- Loras hit .467 in the fifth set, finishing with nine kills on 15 attempts … It was the second set this season that the Duhawks hit above .400
- As a team, Loras hit .254, improving to 5-0 when hitting above .200
- The Duhawks' 12 blocks on Saturday was the second-highest total this season … The four solo blocks tied a season-best

- Peters' .750 attack percentage marked the third time in program history and third time this season that a player has hit above .500 in a match with at least 10 attempts … His .750 attack percentage ranks second all-time in school history … His three solo blocks tied a program record
- Joe Jendra owned his role on Saturday, finishing with a season-best 12 kills and .348 attack percentage
- Patrick Hollander split the setting duties with Alfredo Lopez on Saturday and set a season-high with 18 assists

Loras continues it's five game home stand in the Athletic & Wellness Center on Tuesday and hosts Maranatha Baptist in non-conference action. The Sabercats are 2-11 this season following a loss to Judson on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Lillis Court.
