Softball Completes Trifecta in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras softball team went 3-for-3 on Wednesday, outscoring its opponents 15-0, posting wins over Mount Mary, Middlebury and Thomas. Regan Wolverton led the Duhawks, going 4-for-7 at the plate while Emma Corkill struck out 11 against Mount Mary.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED - MOUNT MARY
- Loras found runs early and often, scoring three runs in the first inning along with three stolen bases and two singles including a two-RBI single by Savannah Fowler
- The second inning brought more of the same as the Duhawks added two runs on three hits, including a triple by Ashley Lentine and a double by Hannah Towns
- In the last three innings, Loras added six runs, split evenly in each frame, resulting in the 11-0 win by mercy rule
- In the circle, Emma Corkill finished with the shutout facing 20 batters in 5.0 innings while striking out 11

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED - MIDDLEBURY
- Loras took the lead early off of back-to-back doubles by Lentine and Shannon Coyle
- The Duhawks scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, executing "small ball" with Bria Lenten opening with a double before she advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Savannah Fowler and later scored on a single by Melanie Gerbig
- Emily Reilly threw her second shutout of the season, adding three strikeouts

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED - THOMAS
- Both sides were scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Lentine singled through the right side scoring two runs for the Duhawks
- Loras finished the game with eight hits including two each from Lentine and Gerbig
- Sophomore KyLeigh Becker completed the third shutout of the day throwing 7.0 innings and added five strikeouts

NOTABLES
- Corkill recorded her 75th strikeout and is one win from tying her previous single-season best
- Lenten is 10 hits from tying her single-season best of 33, set last year … The senior needs seven RBIs to reach 100 for her career
- Regan Wolverton brought her career hit total to 96 on Wednesday, needing four to become the second player this season to reach 100
