McGee's 17-Save Night Propels Duhawks Past Rams

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - For the second time this season, Ashley McGee put the team on her shoulders and recorded 17 saves, sending the Loras women's lacrosse team to a 15-10 win over Cornell on Thursday night. Offensively, Renata Veljacic tallied five goals, bringing her season total to 24.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- After Veljacic scored the first goal at the 28:54 mark, the Rams responded with five unanswered goals, putting Loras down by four
- Over the final 7:39 of the first half, the Duhawks rattled off seven goals for an 8-5 lead at the break ... Four of the seven goals came from Veljacic and Olivia Flynn
- Back-to-back Cornell goals cut the Loras lead to two at 9-7 before Flynn responded with her 34th and 35th goals of the season
- Leading 11-9, the Duhawks ripped off four straight goals, including a pair of Sarah James

- McGee is one win away from tying her previous season-high win total of seven, set a season ago
- James set a career-high with four goals on Thursday and with one assist, set a career-high with five points

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME - Ashley McGee
- The senior goalkeeper backed her team to a win on Thursday, recording 17 saves for her 22nd career victory. McGee's night propelled her past the 100-save mark for the fourth time in her career and in the process surpassed the 500-save milestone, doing so in 60 matches.

Loras heads to Chicago on Saturday for a MWLC showdown with Illinois Tech. The Scarlet Hawks are 5-7 this season with a 4-4 mark in MWLC play. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
