Baseball Handed Sweep by Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Missed opportunities and inconsistent offense plagued the Loras baseball team on Saturday, as the Duhawks dropped the final two games of the weekend series against Dubuque, 2-1 and 11-8. Richard Bryza connected on a pair of triples while Jake Oglesby finished 4-for-8.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- Both teams traded runs in the opening inning, Dubuque's coming via throwing error while Oglesby singled to score Cole Thompson
- The difference came in the third inning after a one-out double for the Spartans, the go-ahead and eventual winning run would score on a two-out single through the left side
- Dubuque raced out to a 5-0 lead in game two, scoring two runs in the second and three in the third
- Loras struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a triple to the gap by Bryza that scored both Ryan Koester and Oglesby
- The Duhawks later took the lead for the first time in the series in the bottom of the sixth with a four-run, four-hit inning ... Cole Thompson delivered on a singled back up the middle on a 2-2 pitch
- Loras held the one-run lead for the next two innings and brought the Spartans to their final three outs ... The first four batters reached with Dubuque reclaiming the lead with a two-RBI single ... Before the inning was through, the Spartans tacked on two more insurance runs
- The Duhawks went down in order, all on a swinging third strike, to seal the win for the Spartans

NOTABLES
- Bryza and Oglesby carry five-game hitting streaks into the final week of the regular season
