ST. LOUIS (Duhawks.com) - Records fell left and right on Friday night for the Loras men's volleyball team, as the Duhawks kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3-2 win against Fontbonne.
Mihajlo Gomez broke the school record with 26 kills while
Dylan Ross chipped in 21.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Set One
- Back and forth play opened up the match with no team having more than a two-point lead for a majority of the frame
- At 19-all, three consecutive Duhawk errors started a run for the Griffins as they took the opener, 25-19
Set Two
- Fontbonne maintained the momentum it had built, opening a lead at 14-10
- Following a timeout, the Duhawks went on a five-point run, tying the set at 15-all … During the run, Gomez earned a pair of kills
- The Griffins took a timeout of their own and reclaimed control of the set at 23-21
- Back-to-back kills from
Joe Jendra combined with a Fontbonne error brought the Duhawks to set point at 24-23
- Following a point-for-point trade-off, a combination of kills from
Dylan Ross and
Mihajlo Gomez capped a 28-26 set two win
Set Three
- The third set was filled with errors from both sides as teams traded points until Loras gained an 18-15 advantage

Austin Kuchenbecker took control of the net with one of his six blocks on the match to put the Duhawks ahead 23-19
- Kuchenbecker terminated the final point of the set on an overpass as Loras took the third set, 25-20
Set Four
- Fontbonne stayed in control for most of the fourth set
- Ross kept the Duhawks in the match by rattling off six consecutive kills latae in teh frame
- The Griffins equalized in the match, winning the fourth, 27-25
Set Five
- Loras jumped out to an early 4-1 and never looked back
- Fontbonne fought back to a one-point deficit at 10-9, but the Duhawks responded with kills from
Alfredo Lopez and Gomez
- Ross capped off the match point for the Duhawks as they won the fifth and final frame, 15-13

Loras completes the regular season on Saturday against Greenville. While Friday's win kept Loras in contention, a win on Saturday would secure the fourth and final bid to the 2018 MCVL Tournament. First serve against the Panthers is scheduled for 1 p.m.
