Duhawks Open Weekend with Sweep

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team opened its 2018 campaign on the right foot Friday night, making quick work of St. John Fisher in the opening match of the Forester Invitational. Sarah Lewis and Michelle Budden each totaled seven kills while Kelly Boge added five kills and five blocks.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Set
- Leading 6-4, the Duhawks ripped off a 13-5 run, which included five straight points with Jenna Mazur at the service line
- Kills by Jenna LaCorte and Lewis helped close out the opening frame, 25-14

Second Set
- St. John Fisher rebounded quickly after the first set and matched Loras point-for-point to open the second
- The Duhawks pulled away after an 8-1 run, thanks to Jackie Alberto and Paige Griffith combining for five kills

Third Set
- Another big run by Loras fueled efforts in the third set with LaCorte leading the charge at the service line
- Leading 18-7, the Duhawks closed out the sweep, capped by a kill from Reilly Kuhn

NOTABLES
- Boge's four solo blocks set a career-best for the Wahlert Catholic prep
- LaCorte set a career-high with five service aces
- In her collegiate debut, Krystal Tranel collected 14 digs

In her varsity debut, Lewis opened her night with four kills in the opening set and finished hitting .312 ... She accounted for 10.5 points on the night, adding four blocks, including three solo stops

UP NEXT
Loras' second match of the day against Lake Forest was halted in the fourth set due to a leak in the roof. That match will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. Following the conclusion of that match, the Duhawks take on Manchester and MSOE.
