Duhawks Fight Back to Win in Five

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team overcame a bit of adversity on Friday night in a 3-2 win over Webster. Sets 1 & 2 went the way of the Duhawks before the Gorloks came back to win Sets 3 & 4. In the fifth, it was all Loras as the Duhawks hit .471 as a team, taking the deciding frame, 15-6.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• Both sides exchanged short runs through the first 37 points ... With the Gorloks leading 19-18, Loras earned seven of the next 10 points, capped with a kill by Michelle Budden, to take the opener, 25-22
• Level at 6-all in Set 2, Budden once again put away a kill to bring Kira Busse to the service line ... Busse's aggressive serving prevented Webster from finding a rhythm as the Duhawks ripped off a 10-0 run, forcing a timeout from the Gorloks ... A late surge brought the deficit to seven at 21-14, but Loras kept its advantage and moved to a 2-0 match lead, winning Set 2, 25-17
• The humidity inside the Carver Center began to apply its influence in the match in Set 3, resulting in numerous stoppages ... The delays aided Webster, who ran out to an 11-5 lead, which included a 5-0 run ... A 5-1 run by the Duhawks pushed Loras back in front at 18-16, with three kills coming off the right arm of Budden ... The Gorloks quickly flipped the script and remained alive with an 8-1 to come from behind and win Set 3, 25-20
• Once again, the Duhawks were quick to grab the early advantage, holding leads of 13-9, 18-14 and 23-18 ... Similar to Set 3, Webster rallied late in the set, this time with a 7-0 run to put Loras on its heels ... A Duhawk attacking error, matched with a Webster double block proved to be the difference late, as Webster leveled the match at 2-all, winning the fourth set, 27-25
• In the fifth set, Loras opened by scoring five of the first eight points and never looked back, building a 5-3 lead to 10-6 before scoring the final five points of the set to win the match, 15-6

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME - MICHELLE BUDDEN
It's not very often that 18 kills ges unnoticed, but for Budden, she did fly relatively under the radar simply because of her consistency. Time and time again, Budden and Griffith connected. Interestingly enoug, Budden registered a combined 10 kills in the two sets that the Duhawks dropped.
