DAVENPORT, Iowa (Oct. 1, 2019) – The Loras College women's tennis team handed St. Ambrose University (4-1) its first loss of the season on Tuesday, winning the dual against the Bees by a score of 7-2.
Loras (9-1) swept the doubles matches as
Audrey Hinz and
Noely Baumann defeated Meg Chadick and Elizabeth Bush 8-7 in the tiebreaker at the No. 1 position and
Lauren Diiulio and
Sara Backus won the match at No. 2 double by a score of 8-3 against Kiersten Housenga and Emma Lang.
Meghann Long and
Maddie Smith won at the No. 3 position, defeating Meghan Maynard and Lexi Yaddof, 8-1.
St. Ambrose took win at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions in singles play, but it would not be enough to catch the Duhawks' lead. Hinz won her match at the No. 1 spot, defeating Housenga 61-, 6-4, and Backus won her match at No. 4 singles against Lang, 6-0, 6-3.
Isabel Schwabe scored a 6-0, 6-0 sweep against Maynard at No. 5 singles and Baumann defeated Gillian Sondgeroth at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Loras returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 8 to host its final regular season dual against American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) and next-door foe the University of Dubuque. Matches begin at 3:30 P.M. at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
