Oct. 8, 2019 – Playing on its home courts, the Loras College women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a win, taking all nine matches against the University of Dubuque on Tuesday afternoon to improve to 10-1 overall and 7-1 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play.
Lauren Diiulio and
Sara Backus opened doubles play with an 8-0 sweep of Dubuque's Lauren Colon and TaDazja Perkins at the No. 2 position.
Meghann Long and
Maddie Smith won their match at No. 3 doubles, 8-3, against Samantha Heins and Patient Jabbah before
Audrey Hinze and
Noely Baumann defeated Hailey Wang and Ashley Palauos, 8-6, at the No. 1 position.
Isabel Schwabe remained perfect for her season in singles play, winning her match at the No. 4 position 6-0, 6-0 against Perkins.
Molly Monson won the No. 6 match 6-1, 6-0 against Jabbah and Diiulio added a win at No. 2 against Wang by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Baumann won at No. 5 against Heins with a score of 6-1, 6-2 to also maintain her unblemished record and Long won the No. 1 singles match against Palauos, 6-4, 6-1.
Backus rallied back from a 4-6 loss in the first set at the No. 3 position to take the next two 6-4 and 10-5 and the win against Colon.
With all regular season matches complete, Loras will focus its attention to the postseason and the A-R-C Individual Tournament beginning on Friday, Oct. 11 in Waterloo, Iowa. Location is to be determined, with weather permitting, and all tournament information can be found HERE.
