Duhawks Celebrate Seniors with Win Against Central

Contact: Emily Zadny, Director of Athletic Communications, 563-588-7970

Oct 26, 2019 – The Loras College women's volleyball team (19-7, 6-1 A-R-C) clinched a second-place finish in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) regular season with a 3-1 Senior Night win against Central College (15-11, 2-6 A-R-C) on Saturday.

The match opened with back-and-forth action with both teams trading leads as seniors Kayla Kinney and Kendra Cave scored tying kills in the opening set. Central pulled ahead 10-8 but five attack errors and a kill from senior Kelly Boge tied the set 14-14. The Dutch went on a four-point run to lead 18-14 and soon grew the lead to 23-16,  but Boge and Cave worked together with fellow senior Jessalyn Roling on offense to bring the Duhawks within three, 23-19. Central called a timeout and gave up a point on an attack error, but regained control on the following serve to win the first set, 25-20.

Determined to not let the seniors down, Loras came out in the second set with an 15-4 lead following six kills and an ace from Kinney and one kill apiece from senior Abby Allgeyer and Jackie Alberto. The Dutch struggled throughout the middle of the set, surrendering three errors and setting Allgeyer up for the kill to take a 19-7 lead. Central had a late comeback, scoring four-straight to cut Loras' advantage 21-15, but it was not enough to stop Loras as Alberto hit the winning kill off the hands of Roling to end the set 25-17.

Boge, Cave, Kinney, Jessalyn Roling, and Moira Mixan all hit kills to give Loras the 17-11 lead and force the Dutch to take a timeout in the third set. Kinney came up with the kill out of the break before teaming with Alberto for a block to put Loras on track for the 25-16 win. The Duhawks' offense came out firing in the fourth set as Mixan tallied her 47th service ace of the season and Allgeyer hit back-to-back kills for an 11-4 lead. Loras did not let up and won the fourth set 25-19.

Kinney led all players with 17 kills and she, Cave and Krystal Tranel had one service ace each. Tranel also tallied 24 digs and Alberto led the team with three blocks.

Loras concludes the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the University of Dubuque. Match time is set for 7:30 P.M.
