Duhawks Score Three Unanswered Touchdowns to Defeat the Prairie Wolves

LINCOLN, Neb. (Nov. 2, 2019) - The Loras College football team (4-4, 3-3 A-R-C) traveled to Nebraska Wesleyan University (3-5, 1-5 A-R-C) to face the Prairie Wolves. The Duhawks went down early, but came back and scored 21 unanswered point to come away with a 21-14 victory.

The Prairie Wolves struck first with a 22-yard rushing touchdown on their first drive of the game. Nebraska Wesleyan came up strong on defense and forced a quick Duhawk punt to regain control of the ball. With 7:55 remaining in the first quarter, the Prairie Wolves executed on a 14-yard touchdown pass to take an early 14-0 lead.

The Loras defense stepped up in the second quarter by keeping Nebraska Wesleyan from finding the end zone. With 1:48 remaining in the first half, Noah Sigwarth found the end zone on a 7-yard rush to put the Duhawks on the board. Loras went into halftime trailing 14-7.

The Prairie Wolves started the second half with the ball, but another stop by Loras forced a punt. With 8:02 remaining in the third quarter, Sigwarth found the end zone on a 3-yard rush to score his second touchdown of the game and tie the game at 14-14. Minutes later, the Duhawks got the ball back and took the lead 21-14 on a 1-yard rush from Jerry McDaniel.

Early in the fourth quarter, Loras turned the ball over on a fumble which put Nebraska Wesleyan in good field position. One play later Riley Larson intercepted a pass at the three yard line to give the Duhawks the ball again. With 3:16 left in the game and a 21-14 lead, Loras was forced to punt. Nebraska Wesleyan put themselves in good field position by blocking the punt and taking over at NWU 41-yard line. The Duhawks responded as Walker Even strips the ball out of the hands of a Prairie Wolves receiver to give Loras the ball back with 2:23 remaining in the game to help seal the Duhawk win.

On offense, Sam Maloney finished with five receptions for 69 yards receiving. Jake Burgmeier finished with 102 yards rushing to lead the Duhawks on the ground. On defense, Sam Jones finished with three total tackles with two tackles for loss and half a sack. The Duhawks will host the Simpson College Storm on Saturday, November 9. Kickoff is scheduled at 1:00 PM.
