November 6, 2019 - The Loras College men's soccer team defeated the Simpson College Storm 3-1 Wednesday night in the Rock Bowl to advance to the A-R-C tournament championship. The Duhawks moved to 15-5-1 on the season.
Loras led in shots (22-15) with 12 shots being on goal and corner kicks (8-7).
Jesse Buffington registered five saves to bring his season total to 24.
Tigrio Huerta sent a header to the bottom right corner of the net in the 8th minute to give Loras the 1-0 lead. Tigrio helped his younger brother
Zeus Huerta join in on the Huerta scoring party by sending a cross in the 13th minute to extend Loras' lead to 2-0.
Mitch Gullett scored his second goal of the season in the 41st minute, sending the ball off of the post to move the score to 3-0.
Storm forward Jordy Triana-Vasquez scored Simpson's only goal of the night in the 61st minute, but the Duhawks held on to win 3-1.
Loras will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 9., as they host the Luther College Norse in the A-R-C tournament championship a rematch from last year. Saturday's match will mark the fourth consecutive season in which the two sides have met in the conference tournament championship. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
