AURORA, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's volleyball team found itself on the wrong end of a pair of 3-2 defeats on Saturday, dropping to 10-3 this season.
Mihajlo Gomez totaled 32 kills over the two matches.
LORAS vs. MARIAN
• The Duhawks found a groove early in the first set but Marian responded with a 7-1 run to give them the 17-12 lead
• Marian would use another late rally to give them the 26-24 first set victory
• It was all Duhawks in the second set with Loras utilizing a 6-3 run and another 9-2 run to establish a hefty lead

Andres Martinez and
Alfredo Lopez rose up for the emphatic double block and
Patrick Hollander followed up with a service ace to give the Duhawks the second set win
• Loras and Marian exchanged points for the majority of the third set but midway through Lopez set up a soaring
Mihajlo Gomez for the kill before following him up with back-to-back service aces … The Duhawks would end up taking the set 25-22
• The bulk of the fourth set was controlled by the Sabres until the Duhawks went on a quick 5-1 run, forcing a Marian timeout, but the Sabres responded with a four-point rally of their own to take the set and force a fifth
• Loras went down early in the fifth set but quickly stormed back to tie things up at 4-all
• The fifth set saw 12 separate tie games but it was the Sabres who broke the tie one last time to take the 19-17 fifth set win
LORAS vs. AURORA
• Lopez opened up the second match with an exclamation mark, sending back the first Spartan attack attempt
• The Spartans utilized a 6-1 run to extend their lead just out of reach of the Duhawks, taking the first set 25-21
• Loras found their rhythm in the second set as they opened up with a quick 5-1 run and another 6-1 run soon after which was capped off by a Martinez rejection
• The Duhawk lead was just enough to hold off the Spartans as Loras took the second set 25-20
• Trailing by one point, Hollander entered the game and placed a perfect serve just out of the reach of Aurora, tying the game up at seven
• Loras struggled to close out the set, allowing a late 4-1 run, giving Aurora the two set to one lead
• After establishing a solid lead, Lopez fed a floating
Ian Walsh who double clutched before finessing home the kill
• Gomez sent a screamer from the service line that was too hot to handle for Aurora which paved the way for Loras to take the 25-21 fourth set victory
• Holding a one point lead, Gomez had a savvy finish to force Aurora's first timeout of the set
• Just like Marian, the fifth set saw 10-plus lead changes and also like Marian, the Duhawks fell in the fifth set, dropping their season record to 10-3

Leo Peters posted a career-best 24 kills against Marian and a season-best five blocks versus Aurora … Peters was two kills shy of tying
Mihajlo Gomez for the single match record of 26
• Lopez combined for 99 assists over the two matches … His 54 against Marian and 55 versus Aurora came shy of the program record (56) set by Lopez last season
• Gomez posted a season-high 16 kills against Aurora

Jake Chudzik recorded a career-high 13 digs against Marian
